Here are some comments

ParkerFly says:
I think the only way Edwards stayed is if Peterson stayed. They were both on the same page that they had purged the team, and it would take a while to rebuild it. I know a lot of people don’t like Herm, but I really don’t think any other coaches would have won many games this year with the Chiefs either. I’m sure the new GM won’t see it that way and Herm will be gone.

I can think of 2 top candidates right now. But the new GM is going to want to put his own head coach in place. Getting rid of Peterson without canning Edwards will not accomplish anything.
Ron Wolf, or Pioli for GM.
Cowher will not come back as just a GM, he will want GM and head coach titles.
Bring back Schottenheimer or get jim Johnson, Spagnula, or perhaps Holmgrem for head coach.
