Alaska Earthquake: 6.1 Magnitude Earthquake In Alaska

There has just been reported a 6.1 magnitude earthquake in southern alaska around 2:00 PM. I dont remember the last time alaska had an earth quake like this but a 6.1 is a doooozy!! That’s a shaker. Initial reports say that the quake was centered around anchorage alaska but that information could change with updates.

Earthquakes in Alaska aren’t something you hear about everyday so I’m interested being the geek that I am, in finding out which fault line the earthquake happened on. There have been a lot of earthuakes lately and in my mind the last one was in costa rica just a month ago or so. I will update this alaska earthquake news as I get it. I love real time news and blogging, what a match!

Alaska State Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters said numerous callers reported the earthquake just after 9 a.m. Saturday.
The U.S. Geological Survey rated the quake at magnitude 6.1, and the Alaska Earthquake Information Center gave it a preliminary magnitude of 5.7.

No tsunami warning was generated.
The earthquake was centered about 45 miles southwest of Homer, which is about 130 miles southwest of Anchorage.
